Morbid curiosity, or an interest in unpleasant things, is a human reaction captivating individuals across the nation. True crime media consumption, ranging from books to podcasts to documentaries, has grown rapidly in popularity and this book club leans into that. We may also touch on topics of cults, the paranormal and dark history as we explore the dangerous and more frightening side of the library's collection.
This month we will discuss Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann. In the 1920s, when oil was discovered beneath their land, members of the Osage Indian Nation in Oklahoma became the richest people per capita in the world. Then one by one the Osage were being murdered and anyone who investigated the murders were killed too. This case would become the FBI's first major homicide investigation, but it wasn't until former Texas Ranger Tom White joined the case the chilling conspiracy behind the Osage murders was finally revealed.
