Morbid curiosity, or an interest in unpleasant things, is a human reaction captivating individuals across the nation. True crime media consumption, ranging from books to podcasts to documentaries, has grown rapidly in popularity and this book club leans into that. We may also touch on topics of cults, the paranormal and dark history as we explore the dangerous and more frightening side of the library's collection.
This month we will discuss Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness by Susannah Cahalan. Susannah was twenty-four years old when she woke up in a hospital room with no memory of how she got there. She was strapped to the bed and labeled as a violent, psychotic, fight risk. Just a few days prior she had a promising outlook on life with a budding relationship and a new career taking flight. This true story recounts Susannah's quick fall into madness and the diagnosis of a disease that nearly ripped Susannah's life from her before it really got started.
