One of the most prominent Women’s Rights leaders was also the mother-in-law of L. Frank Baum, author of the classic book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” Author, abolitionist, suffragist, lecturer, and activist, Matilda Joslyn Gage was a force. This presentation explores her achievements and how her influence can be found in Baum’s writing, especially in the brave, independent, and outspoken character named Dorothy Gale. This event is made possible by Humanities Kansas.
