Tom Schmidt will speak about the Kansas Save the Flags Project.
Kansas furnished more soldiers in proportion to its population than any other state during the Civil War. Each unit had courageous men who carried flags into battle in front of the troops. The flag bearers were thus the first men the enemy targeted. Tom Schmidt will share the stories of some of these brave men and 75 flags which they carried and now await preservation in the Kansas Museum of History.
