The Washburn International Film Institute Film Festival is a free event designed for the Topeka community. This workshop called Revealing Hollywood Magic: A Journey through Revolutionary SFX will be given by Washburn University professor of accounting Pamela Schmidt, on the subject and history of special effects in the movie industry.
The WIFI Film Festival was created by the Washburn University mass media department in fall of 2018 and the first festival took place in spring 2019. Each year the festival receives numerous film submissions and has received over 2,000 submissions from over 100 countries. WIFI’s mission is to promote filmmaking in the Midwest and provide a platform for Kansas and student filmmakers to screen their work. They believe education is an important component to grow interest in filmmaking in the region.
