We often find spider webs beautiful, but consider the architects frightening, if not dangerous. Author and entomologist Eric R. Eaton will help us see spiders in a whole new light.
Spiders inspire. They jump. They dance and drum and pluck. They fly, they walk on water. They kill pests. Your bravery in coming to this program will be rewarded with a new-found fascination and appreciation for these arachnids. What better way to celebrate one of the signature creatures of Halloween?
Eric R. Eaton is the author of Bugwaching: The Art, Joy, and Importance of Observing Insects; Insectpedia: A Brief Compendium of Insect Lore; and Wasps: The Astonishing Diversity of a Misunderstood Insect from Princeton University Press. He is also lead author of the Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America. Eaton has published numerous articles in magazines including Birds & Blooms, Ranger Rick, Natural History, Colorado Gardener and Missouri Conservationist. He runs the blogs Bug Eric and Sense of Misplaced. Eaton's empathy for the scared and squeamish, jargon-free explanations, and knack for identifying "mystery bugs" has made him a leading figure in popular entomology and on social media. He lives in Leavenworth, Kansas, with his partner, Heidi.
