Let's talk about any science fiction you have been reading. Whether you loved it or hated it, we want to hear what you think! Chat books with other readers.
In 2025 we are exploring the genres through a year-long club, Journey Through Genres! A genre is a category of books that follow a similar form and/or have similar content.
At the beginning of each month, learn about the genre of the month via our library blog post from an avid reader of the genre. Choose any book from the month's selected genre and read! If you need help picking a book, reach out to us. Your friendly librarians are here to help.
To wrap up each genre of the month, join us in the readers lounge at the library to chat about the good, the bad and the ugly of the genre with fellow readers. In this month’s meeting we will chat about your science fiction reading.
Science fiction is a genre that explores the possibility of worlds that could exist and are often rich in detail about futuristic technology and science. Though the elements explored in science fiction may be unknown, they are not magical because of their strict adherence to science. Many nonreaders of the genre may find it intimidating, but there's nothing to fear! Science fiction exists on a scale from hard to soft. Soft science fiction explores more of the cultural and societal side of future scientific possibilities, while hard science fiction focuses more specifically on ensuring mathematical accuracy.
