Join fellow writers as we explore writing prompts to stimulate brainstorming. This month we will partake in a black out poetry session. After the prompt, stick around and work on your own project.
Each month writers will be led in a short writing prompt to stimulate brainstorming and discussion. After we partake in a writing exercise, take some time to work on your personal writing endeavors, swap tips, and offer peer review, if you so choose.
This month we will explore blackout poetry. A type of found poetry, blackout poetry occurs when words are removed through blacking them out to leave behind select words that create a new meaning of their own. First, grab a page from the text offerings provided by the library or bring in your own text to try your hand at blackout poetry (an old newspaper, an article you printed to read, or maybe even an old note you want to see in a new light). Then, start blocking out the words you want to highlight. Once you have found your poem, black out the remaining words using a black marker, or if you are particularly creative, use some colored markers to create a new piece of art to surround your new poem.
