This book club is not for the faint of heart. Come at your own risk as we discuss the darker side of books. This month our discussion will focus on I'll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara.
Morbid curiosity, or an interest in unpleasant things, is a human reaction captivating individuals across the nation. True crime media consumption, ranging from books to podcasts to documentaries, has grown rapidly in popularity and this book club leans into that. We may also touch on topics of cults, the paranormal and history as we explore the dangerous and more frightening side of the library's collection.
This month we will discuss I'll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara. McNamara, a true crime journalist, was determined to find the violent predator that haunted California for more than 10 years. Known as the Golden State Killer, this predator eluded capture for decades. I'll Be Gone in the Dark is McNamara's obsessive effort to uncover the history of the crimes. Though McNamara suddenly died before the Golden State Killer was unmasked, her story is a testament to the dedication of one woman's investigative efforts.
