Join a thoughtful discussion on topics of racial justice. This month we'll discuss Say it Louder! by Tiffany Cross. Everyone is welcome. Register to attend in person or virtually.
This community book club is a partnership with the YWCA Northeast Kansas to create space for anti-racist learning, conversation and connection. We will meet at 7 pm on the fourth Monday of every month (subject to change due to holidays). We will follow a two-month topic cycle. In the first month of our meeting cycle, we will have presentations, activities, and other topic related items on the agenda. For our second month of the cycle, we will meet to discuss our selected book. You are welcome to attend either or both meetings, as it fits with your schedule.
For September and October our topic of focus is voting. In October we'll discuss Say it Louder! by Tiffany Cross. Email kkriley@tscpl.org with questions or for a copy of the current book.
In Say it Louder!, author Tiffany Cross goes beyond media narratives to present a factual account of the role African Americans play in American Democracy. The right to vote is a basic American tenet, yet throughout history Black individuals have been denied this right and continue to face oppressive forces when attempting to exercise it. As the demographics in America change, so does the electoral power construct, a factor which is of ever-growing importance.
