International Jazz and Blues artist Queen Bey and her band will perform a variety of lively songs as part of our 150th celebration of the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. Seating is limited to 20 people, as the library follows the Shawnee County Health guidelines for COVID-19. All others may enjoy this legendary performance live-streamed on the library's YouTube page.
Queen Bey’s wide repertoire of jazz and blues standards and innovative songs are drawn from her first-hand experience working with the legends of jazz and blues. She began performing at the age of 12 years of age. Jazz greats such as Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Washington and Ella Fitzgerald became her chaperones and her teachers. Bey has performed with B.B. King, The Platters and jazz pianist Earl Garner.
In 2020 the library celebrates its 150th anniversary by highlighting the library’s role in connecting our community through literacy and learning in the past, present and future. The Library Foundation and Friends of the Library share in this celebration as do our media partners WIBW TV and Kansas Public Radio. tscpl.org/150-years
