Krueger's newest book Spirit Crossing is the 21st volume in the Cork O'Connor mystery series, which follows a former Chicago police officer as he cracks cases and navigates the terrain of northern Minnesota. Krueger has also achieved success with several standalone novels. The 2013 novel Ordinary Grace won the prestigious Edgar Award from The Mystery Writers of America and This Tender Land (2019) remained on the New York Times Bestsellers list for 16 weeks. More recently his standalone novel The River We Remember (2023) debuted at #5 on New York Times Bestsellers list and was nominated for Goodreads Reader's Choice award for Favorite Mystery & Thriller.
Growing up in the Cascade Mountain region of Oregon shaped Krueger's love of the mountains and nature, which serve as the backdrop for much of his work. Before becoming a full-time author, Kent worked as a timber logger, construction worker and a freelance journalist. He attended Stanford University, but was expelled in 1970 for protesting the Vietnam War during that tumultuous era. Krueger and his wife have been married for 40 years and make their home in St. Paul, Minnesota.
