Director Patrick M. Kitendo, Ph.D.
He was born in Kenya, arrived in the U.S. in 2007 and is now a U.S. citizen. Kitendo achieved multi-year superior ratings (1's) in State performance and sight reading in Oklahoma. In 2011 he was awarded a State Sweepstakes in Oklahoma when all his choral groups (Men, Mixed and Women) received superior ratings in performance and sight reading all at once.
He has built a state level choral program at Highland Park High School from the ground up. Currently, the choirs have achieved superior ratings every year. They hope to continue the tradition when the pandemic subsides.
Kitendo has a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership/ Management. He is professionally licensed as a school administrator and is an adjunct professor.
"Music has a tremendous healing power especially in times like these," Kitendo said.
